Ecological Restoration

Berger has a great deal of experience in marrying the biological tenets of ecological restoration with the best engineering principles and practices to successfully restore sensitive habitats. We believe that combining these disciplines maximizes the success of designing and constructing a restoration project. Biological sciences provide the foundation for the project and serve as the primary focus, while the adoption of the most effective and cost-efficient engineering practices provides the means to quantify and implement the work.

At Berger, we have taken this philosophy one step further with the establishment of an elite group of scientists and engineers that work together as one unit dedicated to the implementation of ecological restoration and mitigation projects. Berger's Ecological Restoration Design Team is a unique assemblage of key scientists and engineers that work together to conduct restoration projects including tidal and freshwater wetland restoration, shoreline stabilization and protection, flood control, stream restoration and endangered species habitat enhancement.

The existence of our Ecological Restoration Design Team is a key factor in our success in the Environmental field – we are a “one-stop shop” where you can find support for all facets of your project. From conceptual level feasibility and baseline studies, all the way through to design and construction, there are in-house personnel that can meet your needs.

Our Ecological Restoration Design Group includes specialty personnel experienced in flood control, water resources (hydraulics & hydrology) and coastal engineering, site design, and construction management, as well as habitat assessments, permitting, monitoring and maintenance plan development, impact analyses, public outreach, conflict resolution and group facilitation. We are familiar with all levels of planning and design, from conceptual level analysis, feasibility studies, and baseline investigations, to alternative analyses, modeling, & value engineering, concluding with final design and construction management.

Our Ecological Restoration Design Team directs all Ecological Restoration, Shoreline Protection and Flood Control projects, working closely with other Berger Groups such as the Environmental Sciences, Subsurface Investigation, Cultural Resources, Environmental Planning and Engineering Design Groups when a particular project requires other disciplines.
