Small Scale Remediation and Brownfields Redevelopment to Residential Use - Harbor View Townhouse Complex – Keyport, NJ

imageThe Louis Berger Group, Inc (Berger) provided environmental and geotechnical services for the Soil Remediation and Brownfields redevelopment of this former commercial property to include twelve waterfront residential townhomes in Keyport, NJ. 

Preliminary Assessment studies identified potential areas of environmental concern that required investigation and remediation to achieve a status of No Further Action (NFA) from the NJDEP.  Within one year, Berger successfully characterized and delineated two areas of concern, excavated and disposed of lead-contaminated soils, demonstrated to the NJDEP that arsenic in site soils was naturally occurring, and navigated the case through the complete NJDEP process to achieve an NFA determination. The development could proceed as a clean (unrestricted use) property.  Environmental Remediation costs to the development company were minimal, and construction was not delayed.
