Development Economics

Development economics has long been at the core of The Louis Berger Group's professional practice. From our beginnings, we have pioneered in introducing multidisciplinary analysis to project and program appraisal and evaluation. The Development Economics Group (DEG) was established in 1964 to help bridge the gap between the techniques and approaches of engineers, architects, environmental and physical planners and those of economists, development planners, sociologists and financial and systems analysts.

During the past five years, DEG staff has been involved in a number of initiatives pertaining to:

  • privatization
  • economic policy reform
  • trade and investment promotion
  • micro/small business development
  • legal/institutional reform
  • strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation.

In our activities we focus on achieving the proper balance between the essential role that the private sector must play in economic development, with the legal and regulatory role of government. The Development Economics practice of The Louis Berger Group is active throughout the NIS, Eastern and Central Europe, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
