The
Louis Berger Group, Inc. was asked to prepare photo renderings and drive-through
animations for 50 miles of new highway going through pristine NW Illinois
forests and farmland. Beginning at the town of Galena and ending west
of Freeport, these renderings were then to be included in a 15-minute
video for the public meetings.
Areas that were determined to be most sensitive by the DOT were the focus. Seven, one-mile sections were designed and modeled. Accuracy in showing how cut and fill conditions and new design criteria were being utilized to enhance and protect the countryside was stressed. The project began using design plans created in Berger's Chicago office. Using Inroads Software and a 3 dimensional terrain model, horizontal and vertical geometry were created. The cross-sections and other design guides, such as slope and superelevation criteria, were then used to establish cut and fill limits. This information was then transferred into our modeling/animation and rendering software programs. Following seven weeks of rendering, and the usage of 17 computers around the clock, over 14,000 animation frames were created. These frames were then digitized using digital video editing hardware and software. Using video segments shot on location from helicopter and ground, the footage was combined and edited. Finally, professional voice over and music was added. |
