McCarran International Airport McCarran International Airport is the principal airport serving Las Vegas, Nevada, the internationally renowned vacation, shopping, entertainment and gambling destination. In 2005, McCarran was one of the world's busiest airports, ranking ninth in passenger traffic, accommodating nearly 45 million passengers. It also ranked fifth in aircraft movements, with over 600,000 takeoffs and landings. By 2017, airport officials project that McCarran will serve over 54 million passengers. To accommodate that number, the facility is undertaking an ambitious expansion program, including a new $4 billion terminal, east of the existing Terminal 1,

to accommodate nearly half of the airport's projected 54 million passengers. Berger was commissioned by the Clark County Department of Aviation to perform a number of landside studies for the new facility. The Team first developed and analyzed alternative access roadway systems to serve the two existing terminals and proposed ancillary buildings located adjacent to the current facilities. The study examined scenarios to reconstruct the existing roadway system to improve the flow of traffic between the terminals and the three airport entrances. Berger also recommended increasing distances between decision points and enhancing the visibility of signage.

In conjunction with Clark County's plans to develop a new terminal at McCarran , Berger conducted studies to provide landside access to the new facility. The Team recommended the implementation of a "loop" roadway system, encircling the entire airport and conveniently linking motorists with all terminals and airport entrances. Berger's study also concluded that the reconfiguration of local roads would reduce conflicts between airport and local traffic.
