Program Management for Incheon International Airport

Incheon International Airport (IIA) is the largest aviation facility in South Korea. Opened in 2001, it replaced Gimpo as Korea's principal international facility. In 2005, IIA was named "Best Airport Worldwide" based on the results of a joint program sponsored by International Air Transport Association and Airport Council International. Currently the sixth busiest airport in Asia, IIA accommodated 28 million passengers in 2006, up nearly 10 million from when it first opened. To meet the facility's rapid growth, the airport is currently undertaking an ambitious expansion program. The Berger Group, in association with the local consortium KIDS, was retained to provide program management services to the Incheon International Airport Corporation for the second-phase expansion at IIA.

Berger experts have provided value and field engineering services during the design and construction phases. The Team has reviewed the technical specifications and requirements for a number of significant proposed facilities, including the new remote satellite concourse, connected to the main passenger building by a People Mover System, and a third 4,000-meter-long runway. In addition to the expansion at IIA, a number of equipment upgrades will be addressed, including improvements to multi-radar tracking, surveillance systems, and runway monitoring and alert systems. Upon completion of the $4 billion dollar project in 2008, the airport will have the capacity to accommodate 410,000 flights and 44 million passengers annually, up from 240,000 and 30 million, respectively. Cargo capacity will also increase from 2.7 million to 4.5 million tons.
