The Essex County Department of Public Works also selected Berger to provide the engineering design and environmental permitting assistance for the replacement of the Bloomfield Avenue Bridge over the Peckman River in Verona.

When inspection of the original stone arch bridge uncovered serious structural deficiencies, a replacement precast concrete arch structure was designed and constructed in stages to maintain traffic along this busy thoroughfare. The architectural features of the replacement structure included reusing the original stone masonry for the new façade. Due to the importance of adjacent Verona Park, Berger implemented the work in coordination with the State Historic Preservation Officer.
