Florida Bridge Inspections

In recent years, Miami-based BergerAvart has undertaken a growing number of bridge assignments throughout Florida, including assisting the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority with the inspection of over 300 structures since 2003 and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) with the design and load rating analysis of six new bridges along the Palmetto Expressway and Tamiami Trail Interchange; the repair and rehabilitation of the Julia Tuttle Causeway Bridges, the N.E. 79th Street Bridges and the Interstate 395 Bridges; the design for the fender system replacement at the 1,257-foot Bakers Haulover Bridge; and the structural assessment and rehabilitation designs for the 13,468-foot Big Spanish Channel Bridge substructures.

In Monroe County, under a five-year asset management contract with FDOT District 6, BergerAvart is currently performing National Bridge Inventory inspections for 57 bridges along State Road 5 in the Florida Keys, including the renowned Old Steel Girder Seven Mile Bridge between Marathon and Pigeon Keys; the Seven Mile Bridge between Marathon and Knight's Keys; the Long Key Bridge; the Niles Channel; and the Channel No. 5 Bridge. The Team also performed load rating analyses and prepared structural assessments and forensic investigations of bridge elements in distress.
